Port Edward mayor Dave MacDonald is warning residents about an aggressive deer in the community that he says has been known to charge at people who go near it.

“There is a deer on Evergreen that has been coming after people and dogs. One resident came onto our deck today to escape it, and I've tried to shoo it away but it will scare the daylights out of you,” he said at the June 28 council meeting.

“What it does is that it lays in the grass and if you come close to it it will jump up and come right at you...I haven't seen anything like it.”

Other councillors say they have heard from residents about the deer as well, and don't believe it has any young ones to protect.
