Port Edward is ready for another summer season on the water with recent upgrades to the public boat launch.
With a price tag of $172,000 the dock was replaced after being built at a compound in Prince Rupert. It was shipped to Port Edward and reassembled approximately two weeks ago.
“We were able to do a ribbon cutting before fishing season started, so we’re really happy about that,” Port Edward chief operating officer Bob Payette said.
Anyone is able to use the boat launch. Payette said there isn’t a fee, but asks that people consider the donation box. Any donations go to minor upkeep of the dock.
“These new upgrades will play a vital role in keeping a key asset of the community functioning, providing more opportunities for future economic growth for Port Edward and the surrounding region,” Joel McKay, the CEO of Northern Development Initiative Trust said in a press release.
The project was also funded by AltaGas, DP World and the District of Port Edward.
