Person clipped by train in Port Edward, flown out for medical attention

Prince Rupert RCMP were called out to Port Edward early this morning after a person was hit by a train.

According to Cst. Andrew Burn, the incident took place just before six a.m. this morning. The person involved suffered major injuries after being clipped by the train as it was travelling at the end of Skeena Road out by North Pacific Cannery. The individual was then flown out of Prince Rupert for treatment, and was said to be in critical condition.

According to Kelli Svendsen of CN there was no designated crossing in the area where the person was struck, indicating the person was trespassing on the line when the incident took place.

CN police are attending the scene and continue to investigate.
