A struck pedestrian lies on the road and is attended to by paramedics at the intersection of Second Avenue West and Sixth Street Thursday morning.

A pedestrian was struck in Prince Rupert at the intersection of Second Avenue West and Sixth Street early Thursday morning.A 41-year-old woman was struck by a truck turning the corner at the intersection, said the Prince Rupert RCMP press release. The pedestrian was transferred onto a stretcher by paramedics and was wearing a respiratory mask at the scene, lying beside the north-south crosswalk nearest to Tim Horton's.

Police directed traffic away from the scene and had the intersection blocked off at 9:00 a.m., on March 10.

"The woman appeared to be suffering from injuries to her back and was taken to (the) local hospital for treatment," said Sgt. Dave Uppal in the release.

The RCMP release asks the public to stay off electronic devices that can lead to distracted driving.

"If you are concentrating on something else, you are not concentrating on your driving and what is going on around you. This puts you at a really high risk of getting into an automobile accident," Uppal said.
