My Mountain Co-Op will be presenting a weekend full of live music, as well as the official ribbon cutting ceremony for Shames Mountain operating as My Mountain Co-Op, starting on Friday, January 13.
“People attending can expect to enjoy an evening of eclectic sounds and good people supporting Shames Mountain.” Said Polly Rudderham of My Mountain Co-Op, which is Canada’s first non-profit, community service cooperative.
Two British Columbian bands will be performing both evening of the weekend, the first of which taking place on Friday, January 13 in Prince Rupert at the Fishermen’s Hall. The performance will be adult only, with tickets costing $20 each. All funds will go towards purchasing and maintaining Shames. Doors will open at 8 p.m.
Starting off the evening of music will be Terrace’s own King Crow and the Ladies from Hell, a nine-member band. The group can be described as folk rock punk gypsy bluegrass funk, and has a variety of different influences including The Pogues, The Dubliners, Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys and Johnny Cash.
Headlining the shows will be Vancouver’s legendary folk cabaret band, Maria in the Shower, consisting of Jack Garton, Martin Reisle, Brendon Hartley, and Todd Biffard who have been keeping themselves extremely busy, play around 100 shows a year.
Then Prince Rupert’s own Derek “D-Train” Kormendy will be completing the evening with a DJ set.
Musicians will go on to perform two shows in Terrace on Saturday, January 14, at the Elk’s Hall, the first being an all ages show starting at 6 p.m. before moving on to do an adults show starting at 9 p.m.
Then on Sunday, January 15, skiers, snowboarders and friends of the mountain can attend the official ribbon cutting ceremony, which will be taking place at Shames in celebration of the agreement My Mountain Co-Op has signed with Shames Mountain Ski Cooperation. After the ceremony, people can partake in on-hill activities such as a Salmon barbeque, tobogganing (weather permitted), avalanche awareness, children’s activities, a fire, and more music.
