Prince Rupert RCMP arrested a 24-year-old male for mischief after breaking the window of a police vehicle and for allegedly assaulting a police officer on Feb. 24.

Police arrested a 24-year-old man last Friday after he allegedly assaulted an officer and then head-butted a police vehicle.

Prince Rupert RCMP responded to reports of a fight at an apartment in the 500 block of Fulton Street on Feb. 24 at approximately 12:30 a.m. There were 14 people inside the building when the police arrived.

"When one of our members entered, one individual slapped the officer on the back and he was arrested," Sgt. Dave Uppal said. The police then took the man into custody. "When they were searching him the individual struck his head on the back window of the police vehicle."

Uppal said the man was bleeding and police took him to the hospital. Once he was treated for his injuries he was taken back into custody.

On Monday, the accused went to court and was released until his next court date on March 15. Police are recommending charges for assault against a police officer and mischief to a police vehicle.
