Luxury cruise line scheduled to call on Prince Rupert in 2013

With 2012 now underway cruise lines have started to release their itinerary for the 2013 season, and at least tone cruise line has confirmed interest in calling on Prince Rupert next summer.

SilverSea, a luxury cruise line that operates around the world, is scheduled to stop in Prince Rupert a number of times during July as part of its Alaska tours. According to the company’s online itinerary, the ship will be in Prince Rupert for a full day from  eight a.m. to five p.m. during its stops.

The line, which caters to a higher end crowd and offers “elite and intimate ships” with “the highest level of personal service”, runs Alaskan cruises throughout the summer and this would be the first time the line calls on Prince Rupert. The ship itself, the Silver Shadow,  is 610 feet long, has seven passenger decks and includes luxury suite accommodations for 382 guests and space for 302 crew members.

Early schedules online  indicate that Norwegian Cruise, Royal Caribbean – the two lines that formerly called on the city – and Holland America won’t be calling on Prince Rupert in 2013, but Michael Gurney of the Prince Rupert Port Authority says discussions are ongoing with other lines and that two lines have registered intent to call on Prince Rupert next year.

However, Gurney notes that the details of other visits and confirmation of those visits won’t come until later this year when the berth requests have been processed
