Long time Northern Savings Credit Union CEO and Prince Rupert community booster Mike Tarr, who passed away last June after suffering heart failure, has been inducted into the Credit Union Hall of Fame.

The induction took place earlier this month at the 2011 Canadian Conference for Credit Union Leaders in Niagra Falls, Ontario. The Hall of Fame recognizes the achievements of lifetime contributors to the Canadian credit union system, and Tarr certainly has a distinguished career with Northern Savings Credit Union.

Tarr began as a director on the credit union board before serving as Northern Savings Credit Union CEO for almost 25 years.During that time he saw an expansion that included taking over the Terrace and District Credit Union and the opening of mortgage offices in southern British Columbia.

As well as work with the local credit union, he served as a director, committee member and chair for organizations that include BC Central Credit Union, Stabilization Central and the Credit Union of Canada.
