North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice has been appointed as the NDP critic for Rural and Northern Health by party leader Adrian Dix.

The role is one close to what Rice was seeking when questioned about possible critic roles shortly following her election.

"I think Ferries is an appropriate critic role for where we are, but I'm also interested in mental health advocacy. It is a big issue here in the north and I think it would be a good fit," she told The Northern View on May 17.

As well as filling that role in the shadow cabinet, Rice has been named the deputy critic for children and family development.

Skeena MLA Robin Austin has been tasked with the role of natural gas development critic, and the role of ferries critic filled by former MLA Gary Coons will be filed by North Island MLA Claire Trevena.
