Skeena - Bulkey Valley MP Nathan Cullen hasn't ruled out switching from federal to provincial politics.
In a telephone conference with media in his riding last week, Cullen admitted he was warming up to the idea of running for the British Columbia NDP leadership position. While the federal MP was initially "cool" to the idea, he said a number of conversations he's been having have slightly swayed his attitude.
"My initial reaction was some coolness for a number of reasons, most predominately because of the work I'm doing right now at the federal scene, in the House of Commons and on behalf of the northwest," he said.
"While I'm still somewhat cool to the idea... It's been warming up for me."
Cullen said he's contemplating what the future would look like with him as the provincial leader of the NDP, and how it would affect the work and projects he's currently involved with in both the region and country. While Cullen said he "didn't conspire to put myself into this conversation", he will listen to what his supporters have to say about the idea.
"I can certainly say I'm tempted because it seems like the offers are somewhat unique and important. I hear Jack's (Layton) voice in my head saying Never shut doors on things, always be listening. The offers have been incredibly sincere, and talking about a vision I can understand and relate to," he said.
One of the questions Cullen said he's battling with is which level of government would be more effective in addressing his areas of concern.
"We're only on this planet for so long, and you want to make sure you're doing the work you're meant to be doing," he said to media.
Admitting if he had to make a decision whether or not to run immediately he would choose not to run, Cullen still is toying with the idea. The federal MP is giving himself a month or two to make a decision.
