Clark the overwhelming favourite among Liberal Party members on the North Coast

Prince Rupert members of the Liberal Party got the premier they wanted when Christy Clark won the Liberal Party leadership on Saturday. This year, the Liberals were using where a new voting system where each area gets to split 100 points between the four candidates based on which ones the member’s favour the most or least. In all three rounds of voting, the former radio talk show host always received more than 50 points. Out of all the candidates that came to Prince Rupert during the campaign, Clark was actually the one who stayed the shortest amount of time talk to local party members, and made very few promises specifically for the North Coast area.Kevin Falcon who stayed in the city for two days meeting with businesses, local politicians, port executives and held a fancy dinner with party members where he outlined many promises to the area, received only 14.4 points on the first ballot compared to Clark’s 54.8 points. After Clark, the second favorite of local party members was George Abbot, who received 26.6 points on the first vote, and Mike De Jong received a small percentage of the vote with 4.5  points and was eliminated after the first round. On the second ballot, Clark received 54.8 points, compared to Abbott and 30.8 points and Kevin Falcon's 14.4 points. On the third and final ballot, which pitted Clark directly against Falcon, Clark received 68.3 points to Falcon's 31.7 points.
