With the closure of Ecole Westview Elementary coming closer, many alterations were made at last Tuesday’s school board meeting including an update on catchment areas and the time frame for both Kindergarten Registration and applications to transfer students to cross boundary elementary.

The closure of Westview means students currently attending there will see a different catchment area and will have to be transferred to either Roosevelt Park Elementary School for French Immersion students or Pineridge Elementary School.

As well, full day kindergarten will be starting in the 2011/12 school year with any child who turns five by December 31, 2011 being eligible to register. Registration for kindergarten must be completed from February 1 to February 14, 2011.

Another change includes a new student registration and catchment policy. Under the current system, students who do not attend their catchment area school would have to apply every year to earn a spot at their out of boundary school. Under the new student registration and elementary catchment policy, this is no longer so. To take a lot of stress off of parents shoulders, their children now have a “once you’re in that school, you’re in” so parents don’t have to re-apply each year.
