Another black bear hunting season is coming to a close on Haida Gwaii.
The closure takes effect at midnight on Friday, June 1 and the fall black bear season is also being closed. This year there were four black bears harvested on Haida Gwaii by licensed hunters.
The closure is much earlier than last year, when the season was closed on June 24.
The black bear hunt has been a point of contention on the island, as islanders have rallied and lobbied to have the hunt ended completely.
