It was a great week for the U18 Prince Rupert Seawolves at the BC Championships in minor hockey last week as the senior boys came away with a silver medal in the Tier 4 division.

The Wolves went undefeated in the round robin in Creston, beating Houston 5-1, tying Golden 3-3, crushing Creston Valley 8-0, edging out Clearwater 6-5 and pounding North Okanagan 9-4.

That record put Prince Rupert in first place and punched their ticket to the championship game.

The game for the title would be a grudge match with second-place Clearwater whose only loss of the week had been at the hands of the Seawolves.

In the final, though, Clearwater was the slightly better team handing Prince Rupert their first loss 4-2 loss and second place overall.

Team captain Cooper Magnusson led the scoring for the Seawolves with four goals and 14 assists for 18 points on the week. Assistant captain Noah Kloppers had 15 points, nine of which were goals.

Goaltender Thor Pedersen played four games with a 3.25 Goals Against Average (GAA). George Calder Morgan had a 2.00 GAA over two games.

LeighAnne Magnusson, a representative of the Prince Rupert Minor Hockey Association (PRMHA), said it was the first time in many years the association had a U18 rep team and they represented Prince Rupert well on and off the ice.

“They came together as a team and showed great sportsmanship throughout the tournament,” she said.

That did not go unnoticed as one Creston hockey fan commented on Facebook.

“As a member of the public, who volunteered and attended games, I have to give Prince Rupert a shout out,” wrote Jen Rotar. “Very respectful group of players, you can tell they are well-coached. You are raising them right, job well done.”

The PRMHA congratulated the players in a Facebook post noting it was a great way to wrap up their minor hockey career.

“You all played amazing this week and should be so proud of your accomplishments this season,” the post said. “What an amazing group of dedicated athletes.”
