A Prince Rupert martial artist continues to make a name for herself on the provincial taekwondo circuit.

Kaycee Chan competed in the Korean Consul Cup in Richmond at the Richmond Olympic Oval in October finishing third. Adding to the accomplishment was the fact she was competing in a higher division against older and more experienced fighters said her brother Kai Chan.

“I want to keep improving as a fighter and continue to compete in tournaments around the world against the best,” Kaycee said.

Kaycee is a Grade 11 student at Charles Hays Secondary school. For 10 years she also excelled at dance, but at the age of 16 faced the decision of focussing on either taekwondo or dance.

She chose taekwondo based on the competition, structure and discipline, her brother said.

Kaycee is a first dan black belt (the first stage of being a master of a discipline. She is also a two-time provincial champion. In 2022, she captured gold at the BC Taekwondo Championships as a red belt (two steps before black belt).

She is also a member of the CHSS track team.
