A boat stolen from the Prince Rupert Cow Bay Marina has been returned to its owner and a man has been arrested after an RCMP investigation.

A resident of Crippen Cove on Digby Island spotted the boat on shore after it was reported stolen on Jan. 17, according to a Jan. 19 media release from the Prince Rupert RCMP.

The investigation was carried out in tandem with the West Coast Marine Services, a division of the RCMP that attends to matters along B.C.’s coast.

West Coast Marine Services arrested the alleged boat thief in Crippen Cove and returned the stolen boat to Cow Bay Marina.

“Files like this make members smile, when a community comes together to help one of their own and assist in an investigation it makes our job a lot easier and helps victims find justice,” media relations officer Const. Brody Hemrich said.

“Not only were we able to locate the stolen boat, but because of the specialized training of the officers that responded to the call we were able to retrieve it from the shore and tow it in.”
