School District 52 is sharing updated resources that can help deepen people's understanding of Indigenous knowledge and perspectives.
They unfortunately had to cancel their annual Truth and Reconciliation walk, which was scheduled to take place on Sept. 27 at Prince Rupert Middle School. The projected wind and rain in the weather forecast won't allow them to invite speakers or have guests walk the track safely. It will also be damaging for the drums.
"We encourage you to acknowledge this day in a way that is meaningful to you, that is connected to learning Canada's true history, and the ways its impacts continue today," said Lori Burger, district vice principal of Indigenous education, equity and excellence.
The district says that the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation reminds us of the necessity of Truth before Reconciliation and that learning and acknowledging the truth of our history from knowledge holders is an important part of the journey forward.
"Our department provides grade-appropriate resources from K-12 for all educators and has specialized staff to support ongoing learning in schools throughout the year," said Lori Burger, district vice principal of Indigenous education, equity and excellence.
