Prince Rupert RCMP conducted its first Halloween Safety Training presentation at Conrad Elementary School on Oct. 24.
"During this presentation, we talked about road safety, visibility, travelling in groups, candy checks, etc," said Corporal Angela Spicer.
After the presentation, Cst. Julia Buckingham and Cst. Conor Dimmick took the children outside to draw and colour a police cruiser.
"We felt this was a fun, dynamic way to engage the kids. The vehicle will now be roving around town as a conversation piece to the community members," said Spicer.
She said the Yukon RCMP inspired them with this idea. There, the decorating a cruiser activity is used to mark the beginning of the school year. The purpose is to remind the community that children will be waiting for buses and walking to and from school, encouraging drivers to slow down in school zones.
