Public session upcoming for wastewater treatment pilot project

The open house will address public concerns about the project, city says

The City of Prince Rupert is hosting a public information session about its wastewater treatment facility pilot project, which will be built in the Moresby Park area.

The event will be held on Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Eagle Room of the Prince Rupert Civic Centre. The City staff and the project's engineering consultants will be present to meet attendees in person.

"We know that without context, the idea of wastewater treatment fairly close to a community neighbourhood sounds off-putting. We’re here to answer questions that will help residents to understand that this form of wastewater treatment is far different than traditional models," said the City of Prince Rupert on its Facebook page.

The city's communication manager confirms that construction on the facility has not yet begun, but the team is completing the designs.

"Rather than your standard treatment system, this is a nature-based wetland system that will not smell of waste, just mulch or natural plant breakdown processes which occur within a contained metal tank," said the city on Facebook.

The city has also uploaded an elaborate and simplified informational video of the plan on its YouTube channel [@cityofprincerupert6821].

An accessibility lift is available to transport residents to the second-floor room for the public meeting.
