Free activities and events for all ages will be held at the Prince Rupert Library all summer long.

The library's Summer Reading Club for elementary school students will begin on July 7 and run until August 14. Sessions will run from 2 to 3 p.m., with Grade 1-3 sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays, and Grade 4 sessions on Thursdays.

The library will also be launching a new teen book club program on Tuesday, July 8 at 3:30 p.m. to provide a comfortable environment for youth and to foster a sense of community. The Hunger Games, as well as Percy Jackson and the Olympians, are potential options for the club's first book. Interested individuals can pick up a survey slip from the library or simply join the first meeting.

Tech Time with Tye will bridge the technology gap with 20-minute sessions about email basics, internet safety, device troubleshooting and more from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesdays and 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursdays.

Magician Leif David will be putting on a family-friendly magic show on July 9 at 10 a.m. No registration or reservations are required.

The library's after-school program Create & Make will move to Fridays from 2 to 4 p.m. during the summer. No registration is required and children under the age of six must be accompanied by an adult.

Every Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m., the library will host its Knit and Crochet Social. The social event is for self-directed individuals to bring their personal projects.

During the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m., the library hosts an Artist Meetup for creative individuals aged 16 and up.

On Wednesday, July 23 at 7 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room, local gardeners and gardening enthusiasts are called to join in an author reading and discussion with two experts. Linden Shaw from Vancouver Island will be reading from his book Gardening For Busy People, alongside Ken Shaw of Rainbow End Farm.

On Saturday, July 26 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room, the library will host its Writer's Social, a casual drop-in writer's group. The creative writing gathering will include the option of warm-up prompts, short exercises or working on existing projects.

On Monday, July 28 from 1 to 3 p.m., Paul Lagace of The Prince Rupert Unemployed Action Centre will host a talk about Tenant Rights and Income Security, and will answer questions regarding employment insurance, income assistance, human rights, disability assistance, employment standards, the Canadian Pension Plan and more.
