Between Jan. 20 and 26, families in Prince Rupert can appreciate more than 30 free and diverse activities with the city's new Unplug and Play program.
These include community events at the library, spin and juggling, swordplay, skating, dance, swimming, yoga, classic games, and more.
“Each activity is designed to promote physical literacy, mental, and emotional well-being while providing a space for individuals and families to enjoy quality time together and unplug from digital devices,” said the City of Prince Rupert in a Jan. 14 release.
The city partnered with Northern Savings Credit Union, which has donated $5,000 annually for the next three years to support this initiative.
The funding will also support the city’s Recreation Access Program, which helps individuals in need access sports, arts, and cultural activities at the Recreation Complex at a reduced rate. It will also provide some free community events and programs during school breaks.
Furthermore, all general drop-in recreational programming in the Auditorium and Gymnasium will be free for six days.
“Being active and having an opportunity to unplug, promotes well-being and strengthens social bonds," said Stefan Delloch, Northern Savings CEO and president.
"We are excited to partner with the City of Prince Rupert, its Recreation and Community Services Department, and other community groups on these important initiatives and look forward to seeing the programs build and grow over the next few years.”
