The Prince Rupert and District Chamber of Commerce acclaimed Andy Enns as its 2025-2026 president March 5 during its annual general meeting March 5 at Arabisk.

Enns is a site services coordinator for WSG Energy. A long-time member of the Chamber, Enns served as vice-president to Kristi Farrell last year.

He is also well-known around Prince Rupert for his contributions to the performing arts including the lead role in the community production of Shrek The Musical, scheduled for April 10 - 12 at the Lester Centre for the Arts.

"I'm just looking forward to working with and serving the community with focus on the businesses and industries in this town and assisting them with growth and advocacy," he said.

In her outgoing address, Farrell focussed on the accomplishments of the Chamber in 2024-2025 including the return of the Business Excellence Awards after a three-year haitus due to COVID-19 and hosting the provincial election all candidates forum for North Coast-Haida Gwaii.

In presenting the budget statement for the year, Farrell acknowledged a $5,757 net loss, but proudly noted the Chamber is debt-free and has no liabilities. She also noted they reduced staffing at the Chamber from two positions to one part-time executive director.

Devika Babu assumed that role last year.

With Enns moving up, director Gina Garon stepped up to fill the vice-president role. She was also acclaimed, opening up a director position, which was filled by Sunny Nanan, a well-known real estate agent in the city, also by acclamation.

Following the formalities, the Chamber invited Daphne Thomson to make a presentation on behalf of the District of Port Edward.

Thomson's message was clear and concise: "Port Edward is open for business."

She highlighted amenity improvements underway in the district including development of an educational trail and kayak launch and rehabilitation of Port Ed's boat launch.

She boasted that the district now has 35 registered businesses and lauded Port Ed's proximity to Prince Rupert, low taxes and abundant property availability as attractions for businesses.

Finally, she invited the Prince Rupert Chamber to engage in a facilitated roundtable to provide input to the district on issues such as attractions, barriers and incentives to doing business in Port Edward.
