In addition to matching last year's Rampage Fights Cancer fundraising total of $128,000, the Prince Rupert Port Authority is teaming up with the hockey team to sell pink toques during this season's campaign.

The Prince Rupert Port Authority has matched the Prince Rupert Rampage's 2023-2024 cancer fundraising result.

Last year the team raised more than $128,000 for the North Coast Health Improvement Society during its Rampage Fights Cancer campaign through community members and local businesses. In a press release Oct. 17, the port said it was stepping up to make the total contribution $256,000 through its Community Investment Fund.

The funds will help the health improvement society purchase a new laparoscopic tower that will improve access to surgical services in the community for those requiring treatment.

Rampage president Brett Stava acknowledged the long-term partnership between the team and the port.

“The outstanding generosity of our community and our title sponsor, the Prince Rupert Port Authority, has propelled the Rampage Fights Cancer campaign to new heights,” Stava said.

“For over a decade, the Rampage and PRPA have worked closely together to make positive change in Prince Rupert, and we’re excited to continue that tradition.”

This year's campaign is already underway and will be aided by a new initiative the partners are calling "PRPA & Rampage Fight Cancer Together."

Throughout the season at home games, fans will be able to purchase new limited edition pink toques at the Rampage merchandise booth.

“We share the commitment to strengthening local healthcare and equipping Prince Rupert Regional Hospital with top-of-the-line equipment, that can facilitate a broad range of surgical procedures and save patients and their families from travelling outside the community to receive care,” said Shaun Stevenson, the port authority's president and CEO.

The port said 100 per cent of the proceeds of toque sales will go toward the 2024-2025 fundraising total and supporting North Coast health care.
