North Vancouver Lonsdale MLA Bowinn Ma's constituency office is behind police tape Friday, June 27, 2025 after an "explosive device" went off near the front door of the office. North Vancouver RCMP is investigating.

North Coast–Haida Gwaii MLA Tamara Davidson expressed solidarity Friday after an explosive device damaged fellow NDP member Bowinn Ma’s North Vancouver constituency office in the early hours of the morning.

“I am thinking of Bowinn Ma and her constituency office staff, who, like all constituency office staff across the province worked extremely hard to serve people in British Columbia, as they deal with the aftermath of today's incident,” Davidson wrote on her official Facebook page. “I was so thankful that nobody was hurt and I appreciated the concern expressed by members of Bowinn's community and across the province.”

North Vancouver RCMP said they received the first call around 2:45 a.m. on June 27, reporting a loud bang in the 100-block of West 1st Street. Officers were dispatched but found no immediate evidence. At approximately 4:15 a.m., a second call reported another loud explosion, this time near West Esplanade and Chesterfield Avenue. When officers arrived, they found damage to the front door of a multi-storey office building.

Ma, Minister of Infrastructure, confirmed that a security incident had occurred early Friday and said all appointments at her office were cancelled as a result. She said no one had been injured but described the situation as unsettling and thanked the public for their concern.

RCMP called in the explosives disposal unit, which secured the site. No injuries were reported, and surrounding businesses remained open during the investigation.

Davidson, who also serves as Minister of Environment and Parks, was unavailable for interview. Her Prince Rupert office cancelled all meetings and appointments for the day, advising that it would remain open by appointment only.

Davidson also acknowledged the police response in her statement.

“I’d also like to thank the officers who responded for their diligence and professionalism,” she said. “Due to the active police investigation, I was not able to provide more details at this time.”
