The first baby born in the Northern Health region of 2024 is a girl.

Baby Holland was born at University Hospital of Northern British Columbia on Jan. 1 at 1:04 a.m. to Amy and Jaden Janzen of Burns Lake, weighing in at six pounds, eight ounces.

Meanwhile, the first baby born in Terrace is a boy.

Baby Declan was born at Mills Memorial Hospital at 2:38 a.m. to parents Savannah Pelletier and Brian Hiltz of Haida Gwaii, weighing in at seven pounds, nine ounces.
