Harbour Machining named Chamber of Commerce Member of the Year

Board names Harbour Machining Chamber Member of the Year

The Prince Rupert & District Chamber of Commerce rolled out the red carpet March 14 at the Lester Centre for the Arts to celebrate local business naming Harbour Machining its Member of the Year.

The black-tie gala affair featured hors d'oeuvres and cocktails followed by an awards ceremony interspersed with entertainment by local arts and culture groups.

Sixty businesses, organizations and individuals were up for awards in 12 categories. Voting took place over the week of March 1-8.

Of note this year, the Chamber brought back its Chamber Member of the Year Award. Chamber president Andy Enns said they haven't had it for several years, but they bring it around every now and again to recognize exceptional corporate citizenship.

Unlike the other categories, this one is decided on by the Chamber board of directors.

"This is to remove such an important award from a mere popularity contest to where there is a more serious contemplation of relevance and distinction," Enns said.

"We brought it back this year to acknowledge Harbour Machining for their work locally in providing consistent excellent service, as evidenced by their continual growth and stellar reputation, and their commitment to turning local young workers into a cadre of skilled trades workers."

He added their support of community initiatives, such as sponsorship of the Rushbrook Crab Trap Tree this past Christmas, was also noted.
