Cruise season's last Lax Süülda Container Market in Prince Rupert

The market marks two years of its operation

Since its pilot season in 2023, the Lax Süülda Container Market in Prince Rupert has seen more than 80 different locally run small businesses participate in its various markets and events.

Jaimie Angus, executive director of Tourism Prince Rupert, says the container market in Cow Bay has become a hub for visitors and residents during various night bazaars, farmers markets, community events, and cruise ship days. It has created opportunities for local artisans and vendors to reach a broader audience and strengthened community connections by bringing people together to celebrate local culture and commerce.

"We believe the Lax Süülda Container Market has played a vital role in promoting small businesses, enhancing the local economy, and enriching the cultural fabric of Prince Rupert," she added.

They have been operating on all cruise call days during the 2023 and 2024 summers, and have arranged 12 markets for the community outside those dates.

"We plan to expand on these offerings in 2025 and beyond," said Angus.

This year, the first public container market occurred on May 26 and the last was on Sept. 6. Prince Rupert Special Events will organize a Winterfest container market this December.
