The City of Prince Rupert encourages residents to ensure all bills to the city are still paid on time during the Canada Post strike affecting mail service.

Three weeks into the national Canada Post strike, the City of Prince Rupert is promoting alternative bill payment options that bypass traditional mail services.

“The City of Prince Rupert is reminding residents that, despite the ongoing disruption to mail services due to the Canada Post workers strike, payment of utility bills, parking tickets, and other charges remains the responsibility of residents,” the city posted on Facebook on Dec. 3.

They suggest ways to pay that don’t involve dropping a cheque in the mail. These include:

  • Registering for paperless/email billing by contacting the city at 250-627-2864 or 250-627-0946. You will be emailed a copy of the bill (whether it’s property taxes, utilities or other charges).
  • Visit City Hall, where staff can provide a printed copy of your utility bill.
  • Sign up for the monthly installment payment plan to arrange for monthly, automatic, equalized payments. You can do this by emailing customer.service@princerupert.ca or calling 250-627-2864.

The City of Prince Rupert can be established as a payment vendor with all major banks.

“Please ensure that any City of Prince Rupert bills are still paid on time. After-hours payments will continue to be accepted by the secure 24-hour drop box located by the Customer Entrance of City Hall,” said the city.
