Election day is here, and if there’s any indication from the advanced poll numbers more people are voting this time around.

Advanced voting in the North Coast riding took place from May 8 until May 11, and there was a 25 per cent increase in the number of voters who cast their ballots early.

However, the amount of registered voters has gone from 14, 956 in 2013 to 14, 220 — a five per cent drop since the last provincial election.

Elections B.C.’s preliminary numbers show a high turnout of advanced voters across the province, with just under 20 per cent of eligible voters who cast an early ballot. That is a 62 per cent increase from the 2013 election. The province-wide jump in voter participation isn’t quite reflected in the North Coast district where 15.5 per cent of eligible voters visited advanced polls.

The day of the general election is here and polls have been open since 8 a.m. To find out where to vote visit the Elections BC map.

In the city, voting takes place at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre. Bring a voter registration card and a government issued ID. If you don’t have the registration card, you can still vote by providing your ID.
