Charles Hays Secondary students and alumni pulled out all the stops Dec. 5 in the opening night performance of the Tim Rice/Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
The singing, dancing, sets, costumes and lighting all lived up to the billing of "technicolor" as the cast on stage and in the musicians in the pit gave their all in an energetic and downright entertaining production of the venerable show.
It was a fitting tribute to Alison O'Toole, the drama teacher who has been a driving force on Prince Rupert's performing arts scene for nearly three decades, but who is retiring at the end of the school year.
The choice of the play itself is a fitting swansong requiring the assembly of a choir largely composed of Charles Hays alumni, a children's chorus representing the future and featuring a multitude of musical styles.
The production continues tonight (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) at the Lester Centre of the Arts. Tickets are available for $20. Show times are 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 6 (doors open at 7) and 2 p.m. on Dec. 7 (doors open at 1:30).
