After experiencing some issues with logistics, the Prince Rupert Rocks music event is back on with a new date and new location.
The concert, featuring five bands from across northern B.C., will now take place Aug. 24 at the Rotary Waterfront Park. A variety of food vendors have been lined up and there will be a beer and wine garden by co-sponsor Wheelhouse Brewing.
"Nothing unites people quite like music, and this event promises to bring everyone together with an incredible light show and top-tier sound system that Rupert has never seen before," organizers said.
Prince Rupert Rocks is the brainchild of former Rupertite Julius Watts, who hails from Metlakatla originally. His company, Santan Productions, co-owned by his father Gerald Watts and girlfriend Cindy Nguyen started out as a small-scale DJ service in Prince George, but has grown to be a full-scale production company featuring state-of-the-art equipment.
“We wanted to throw this event in Prince Rupert because then I could really show my family what it is that I do, because a lot of people don’t understand it,” he said.
“Cindy also stays in Rupert during the summer with her family, so I need an excuse to visit her.”
The lineup features some variety with metal and alt-rock bands Infectious and Dark Valley, along with punkers Hot Boii summer making up the Prince George contingent.
The Terrace area will be represented by rez-rockers Coastal Drifters from Kitselas.
The local scene will be represented by Prince Rupert blues-rock quintet JJ Sway.
In Prince Rupert, Watts was known for his martial arts exploits, competing at the provincial level.
He moved to Prince George to be with Nguyen and study psychology at the College of New Caledonia.
He is currently taking a semester off to concentrate on the business, including what he is hoping will be a badass rock festival in his hometown at the end of August.
Adult tickets are now on sale online at Eventbrite for $40. Minors are also welcome for $20, but those tickets will only be available at the gate.
