Lester Centre hosting 7th annual Rock Stock show

All proceeds from the show are going to the Lester Centre

Students from Prince Rupert’s Ring System Music Studio will perform rock and roll classics and contemporary hits during its 7th annual Rock Stock show June 24.

The show will take place at the Lester Centre where 50 students will perform and cover everything from the Beatles to Slash to the White Stripes to Bruno Mars.

Ring System Music Studio director Ian Lihou said all the students at the studio can play instruments as well as sing and perform. He said they have been anticipating the summer performance for months.

“They’re a great bunch of kids,” Lihou said. “They’re incredibly talented and have been practicing hard for this since our Christmas concert last December.”

Lihou said the concert will be a donation entry with all money going to the Lester Centre. He said both the 2016 Rock Stock show and the studio’s Christmas Jingle Bell Rock show raised more than $3,000, a total he hopes will this weekend’s event will be able to match or surpass.

Lihou said the event is important not only because it gives the students a platform to practice their performance and train, but it also gives them the ability to see the impact they can have when they use their talents to benefit others in their community.

“When they raise money to help the less fortunate at Christmas time or when they help raise money to support such a beautiful facility as the Lester Centre is, there are great lessons there to be had,” Lihous said.

“They’re doing something that they love, but they’re doing something that can really have a positive impact on their community and hopefully they can take those lessons with them in all aspects of their lives.”

The doors to the show open at 6:30 p.m. with the show beginning at 7:00 p.m.
