Whatever the weather, Trailer Park Boys star Randy Bo-bandy never misses a greasy barbecue and he certainly never wears a shirt.
A key figure in the popular Nova Scotia mockumentary series, Randy is coming to Prince Rupert on April 7 as part of his Cheeseburger Picnic Tour that will see Randy, whose real name is Patrick Roach, visit towns across northern B.C. and Alberta.
Fans can expect an interactive, entertaining show from “The Randinator” — but he warned attendees not to go overboard on the liquor like his lover on the show Mr. Lahey did so many times in the raunchy comedy TV series.
“It’s never too early or too late to have a cheeseburger picnic. It’s a celebration. Life gets too darn stressful these days, you know? You’ve got to let loose,” Roach told The Northern View.
After the death of his partner in crime Mr. Lahey (John Dunsworth) in 2017, Roach took a break from touring — but said he was coaxed back onto the road by loyal fans across the country and around the world, many of whom relate to the show.
“My agent said that there’s still a demand out there, people are asking ‘what’s going on with Randy?’ So I figured, you know what, let’s spread some joy and happiness,” Randy said.
“The fans are just die-hard fans, they never give up on us and when I talk to them, they say that they know folks just like us in their own communities.”
The character is famous for his aversion to shirts, which Roach said is due to an undiagnosed allergy. He even said show-goers might have the chance to rub his fabled belly.
“I don’t wear shirts. I’m allergic to shirts, it’s a weird thing. Fabrics on my upper body, the doctors can’t figure it out. I can wear my nice white pants, but you’re going to see a shirtless Randy, the best assistant trailer park supervisor,” he said.
Twenty-three years after Trailer Park Boys was first aired, Roach said he still has plenty of gas in the tank and is powered along his packed tours by a cooler filled with his favourite burgers.
The Nova Scotia native said he loves being in B.C., though not as much as his beloved Nova Scotia, where the 12-season cult favourite was set and filmed.
“It’s beautiful out there. I’ve heard some people say the West Coast is the best coast. I don’t know about that, but you have bigger mountains out there, that’s for sure.”
Fans can purchase their tickets for the Cheeseburger Picnic ahead of time. The show will be held at the Moby Dick Pub, with doors opening at 7 p.m.
