While Prince Rupert is celebrating its 13th observance National Aboriginal Day, it is important to note that the roots of the day can be traced back almost three decades and includes countless years of lobbying and pursuing the issue with the Federal Government.

On Tuesday, June 21, communities all over Canada will partake in National Aboriginal Day, a day held in recognition of the incomparable contributions Aboriginal people have made with the development of Canada as well as to celebrate the rich and diverse culture.

The Prince Rupert Aboriginal Community Services Society is giving $500 to 16-year-old Brittany Innes to help send her down to the Lower Mainland to participate in the Aboriginal Summer Science Program at UBC.

Eight second-year registered nursing students from Northwest Community College finished their practicum on the third floor of the hospital last week, where they have been working along side the hospital’s permanent staff for the past month to gain real-world experience.

As the weather warms and the green grass grows, we humans won’t be the only ones out enjoying it, the Ministry of Environment cautions, who placed a “bear aware” alert last week.

As the warm weather approaches I am eating more salads and fewer soups. Since I associate my wine choices most of the time with the food that I am eating, I will be doing some cellar stocking in the next little while with some wonderful wines to pair with summer salads.
