The music students of Ring System Music Studio and Summit Sound Lounge Studio will be presenting the second annual Holiday Concert that will be benefiting the Lester Centre of the Arts on Friday, December16 starting at 7 p.m. at the Lester Centre.
Approximately 40 students, aged nine to sixteen, will be singing, playing the guitar, bass, piano and drums for around 16 songs.
“The [Holiday Concert will] consist of some Christmas carols and some popular, current music,” said music instructor Ian Lihou of Ring System Music Studio, mentioning that covers of popular artists such as John Lennon, Katy Perry, Adele, Leonard Cohen, Selena Gomez and more will be included in the performance.
“We would love to see it sold-out.”
Admission for the Holiday Concert will be by donation, with all the funds collected from the performance going towards the Lester Centre of the Arts for musical gear.
“The Lester Centre is an expensive building to keep running, but we are very fortunate to have it in the community,” Lihou said.
“A stage of that caliber is such a gift.”
This is the second fundraising Holiday Concert put on by the students of Ring System Music Studio and the Summit Sound Lounge Studio. Last year, students performed at the Tom Rooney Playhouse, with funds from the show benefiting the Salvation Army Food Bank.
Additionally, a second annual year-end performance will be held in May and will feature around 45 students, giving the music students another opportunity to perform on stage, something that will give the students more confidence in their playing.
“If you can muster the confidence to walk out on stage and perform for an audience, you can walk into… any situation with an air of confidence that you wouldn’t normally have if you didn’t [perform live],” commented Lihou.
