Over 1000 young aboriginal people from as far away as Nova Scotia have arrived in Prince Rupert to attend, Gathering Our Voices 2011, an aboriginal youth conference held by the B.C. association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres.

Sometimes issues are brought to government by some of its tiny, yet mighty citizens. Last Sunday 7-year-old Jordyn Carter noticed garbage in and around Hays Creek close to the Civic Centre and decided she had to do something.

Students at Northwest Community College held a student debt soup kitchen on Wednesday last week as part of a protest against government inaction on reducing the student debt load, increasing tuition fees and, to a lesser extent, the recent cuts to student aid programs in the new 2011 provincial budget that was announced the day before.

Last week the Prince Rupert Rotary Club celebrated 90 consecutive years of helping the community, making it the longest running service club in Prince Rupert.

Over the past few years, people living in Prince Rupert may have noticed a bit more colour around town due to some vibrant banners made by students in School District 52 that have been hanging around town.

The Vietnamese Community handed over a check for $2,300 to the Prince Rupert Regional Hospital on Friday, February 11 to go towards emergency equipment for the E.R.
