A number of volunteers braved the weather on Sunday to help beautify Prince Rupert as part of Civic Pride’s clean-up.

Prince Rupert scored 68 per cent on an evaluation of the city’s appearance conducted by judges with the Communities in Bloom program.

To commemorate Homelessness Action Week, the North Coast Transition society cooked a free dinner for Prince Rupert’s homeless population

The Prince Rupert Self Advocacy Group and Kaien Island Community Networking Society donated a black leather chair in memory of one of their group’s members who passed away last Sept 25th.

“He had always wanted to get into the military field, it was his high school dream to join the army because my dad was in the army. He joined the same regiment my dad was in, the infantry,” said his mother, Marg Logan, who currently still lives in Prince Rupert.

Earlier this week Patrick St. Louis from the City was painting the school zone signs on the streets around town and was cheered on by Mae Jong-Bowles grade two class from Conrad Elementary, who encourage people to follow the speed laws for their safety.

Public health nurses Kara Wood and Dawn Banser take turns giving one another flu immunizations in preparation for next week.

For the 30th consecutive year in a row, the Prince Rupert Harley Riders Club held the local Toy Run event on Saturday, October 1, where members of the community fundraise money and collect toys for the Salvation Army Christmas Hamper.

Wayne Lundman and president Paul Rajendram from the Prince Rupert Lions Club presented a $1,500 cheque from the club to Bev Killbery, to go towards Halloween Fest at the civic centre.

Officers and volunteers were out last weekend to finish painting the Prince Rupert RCMP detachment, which now includes the RCMP colours of red, blue and yellow all around the exterior of the building.
