Students at Lax Kxeen and Roosevelt elementary schools spent time getting to know their community paper this month.
Teacher-librarian Carissa Easingwood had students from Kindergarten to Grade 5 search through the Northern View to become more familiar with how to find information about their community.
“I decided to teach the newspaper because I think it’s a skill that students should learn.
“Our local newspaper comes to our houses every week and there’s a lot of information included in there about local events and whatever is happening in the community that students should probably know,” Easingwood said.

“We’re also learning about the online version and how they can just access information.”
Most of the students had known someone who had been in the newspaper, and for many of them their favourite feature was the Pet of the Week and the sports section.
