Prince Rupert's Thanksgiving Food Drive was a success this year.

Organizers are calling Prince Rupert's Thanksgiving Food Drive an overwhelming success.

"We had over 70 volunteers and collected well over 4,900 pounds and counting ... last year we collected 2,100 pounds, so having more people come to help out made a big difference," said Julie Slocombe, noting volunteers visited just under 4,000 homes on Sept. 21.

"Overall it was just a fantastic effort. By the time some outstanding donations trickle in, I think we will be over 5,000 pounds of food for Prince Rupert."

The numbers for Prince Rupert were well above those of neighbouring Terrace, where 48 volunteers collected 2,460 pounds of food. Provincially, the Thanksgiving Food Drive collected approximately 400,000 pounds of food to help those in need this holiday season.
