Prince Rupert was treated to perfect weather for the 4th Annual Seafest June 13 - 15, theme: Shellabration.
Thousands showed up for the centrepiece of the maritime festival, the Seafest parade. Harbour Machining took the overall prize for its float featuring a huge metal crab. WCMRC (Western Canada Marine Response Corporation) was named best theme and the Vietnamese Association took the community spirit award.
All of the favourite features and activities were, of course, back, including the soccer, rugby, basketball and softball tournaments.
Street food and crafts also played a major role as always with the vendor market going all weekend.
There were the Quick and Daring races, kayak tug-o-war, bandstand entertainment, show-and-shine, crab-eating contest, soap box derby, boat tours and beer gardens and numerous other activities that ensured there was something for everyone.
It is without question the biggest community event of the year and Prince Rupert Special Events, which organizes it was gratefult to everyone who made it happen.
To our amazing community — your energy, spirit, and support make Seafest what it is. From the crowds at the parade to the volunteers behind the scenes, we couldn't do it without you," they said on Facebook.
They also acknowledged the partners and sponsors of the event including: the City of Prince Rupert, Prince Rupert Port Authority, Prince Rupert Grain, Port Edward Harbour Authority, Pembina, Dexterra, Altagas, CN, Area A Crab, the Lions Club, Big Dog Disposal and Recycling, CityWest, Lonnie Wishart and ILWU 505.
"And of course, to our dedicated volunteers — you are the heart of Seafest. Thank you for your time, passion, and hard work"
