North coast singing group Pacific Mist Chorus, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, will be creating Christmas joy a little early this year presenting Light Up the Season on Nov. 18.

The Pacific Mist Chorus is a four-part harmony group singing a cappella in the barbershop style.

"A cappella is not something people are very familiar with today, although 100 years ago it was the dominate way of singing because there was less access to accompaniment," said Debbie Redman, who is the director and founding member of the chorus.

The Sweet Adelines is made up of 26 female singers, with varying vocal ranges.

"It's all female voices, but we have women who sing in the lower range, so [the chorus has] that unusual depth you don't usually hear with other female groups," Redman said.

The group originally formed in Prince Rupert approximately 30 years ago, and more than 10 years ago another group of ladies from Terrace joined the chorus.

Light Up the Season will feature an arrangement of music, like popular songs from musicals and movies, close harmony songs by artists such as the Beatles and Abba, and of course Christmas carols, both classic favourites and newer songs.

Additionally, the chorus will make their performance visually appealing by adding costumes and dance moves to the mix.

"We have a lot of fun. It's not just about the sound, we love to add to the visuals," Redman said.

The performance will take place on Sunday, Nov. 18 at the First United Church. Admission will be by donation, with the show starting at 2 p.m.
