Aboriginal Youth Conference taking place in Prince Rupert

Over 1000 young aboriginal people from as far away as Nova Scotia have arrived in Prince Rupert to attend, Gathering Our Voices 2011, an aboriginal youth conference held by the B.C. association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres.

Over 1000 young aboriginal people from as far away as Nova Scotia have arrived in Prince Rupert to attend, Gathering Our Voices 2011, an aboriginal  youth conference held by the B.C. asoociation of Aborginal Friendship Centres.

The conference started on Monday and will go until Thursday evening.

The young people spent Monday registerting for the conferences several workshops, topics run from Sexual Health to learning to have better relations with their nation’s elders.

Opening ceremonies were held later that day at the Jim Ciconne Civic Centre  and was attended by the brand-new provincial minister of aboriginal relations, Mary Polak.
