The Pioneer Backpackers Inn, has just about finished a year-long renovation to its facilities.

The Inn is one of two traveler hostels in Prince Rupert and just reached the 10-year anniversary of its opening on January 19.

For the past year owner and manager Christy Allen, has been renovating her big blue building down near Cow Bay. The Hostel now has four new rooms complete with Internet and televisions and one even has a handicapped accessible bathroom.

Allen says that she did most of the work herself whenever she could along with her boyfriend, Sebastian. She says that the construction was made a green as possible.

Besides the new rooms, she also hopes to have vegetable gardens growing in the back yard when the weather is warm enough.

Allen’s hostel is one of the only ones in Northern BC, not even Prince George has a hostel. She describes her business as “ a cheap hotel,” for travelers.

Since they weren’t able to celebrate their 10-year anniversary in January, Allen is planning a open house on April 8 at two p.m.
