Prince Rupert players participate in World Indigenous Basketball Challenge

The 2017 World Indigenous Basketball Challenge was held at the University of British Columbia from Aug. 8-12. Several Prince Rupert players took part in the event’s annual high school all-star basketball game which took place on the tournament’s final day. Payton Henry, Kristi Innes, Cedric Mckay, Colby Stephens and Tyler Jones all made the trip to Vancouver to play in the game.

Drag Racing in Terrace

Members of Prince Rupert’s drag racing enthusiasts took part in the Hot August Nights in Terrace for Riverboat Days. Kham Shantz took home third place in the super pro category and Shelby Peterson came first in the junior dragster category on Aug. 6. On Aug. 7, Gordon Hidber won first place in the super pro category and Shelby Peterson came second in the junior dragster category.

Competing at Riverboat Days

Prince Rupert’s slo-pitch league was well represented in Terrace for Riverboat Days as the team Frank’s Auto took home fourth place after finishing with a final record of 4-2. The team had a strong start to the tournament with a 20-0 victory against the Weekend Warriors. The team then lost their second game against the Black Sox 12-9 before beating the DM Sliders 12-9. In the tournament’s double elimination round, the team went 1-2, eventually losing in the third place game.

Lou Lemire hockey skills returns

The Lou Lemire summer hockey skills camp is returning to Prince Rupert Aug. 14-18. The city’s young hockey players will have an opportunity to build their fundamentals and improve their weaknesses as some of the province’s best coaches run them through on-ice and dryland training to improve their skills.
