Ronald Joseph Basso passed away peacefully in hospital July 22nd, 2017 at the age of 78. Ron is predeceased by his parents John and Stella and brother Harry. Ron is survived by his loving wife Heather of 56 years. They were married in Prince Rupert on April 15, 1961. Ron is lovingly remembered by his wife Heather, brother John and sister Mary; sons Joe, Ron and partner Gwen, Roger and daughter Linda and partner Stewart; grandchildren Luke, Rebecca, Kaillee, Brittney, Ashley. Ron was born November 23, 1938 in Prince Rupert. He was the youngest child of John and Stella Basso having older siblings Harry, John and Mary. Ron began his working life with a summer job at Atlin Fisheries, leaving this to deliver groceries for Shop Easy. After a couple of years his love of the fishing industry drew him back to Atlin Fisheries and a lifelong career. Moving from Atlin to Royal Fisheries (later Ocean Fisheries) he worked as foreman and later manager until his retirement in 2000. Ron enjoyed participating and watching sports, especially floor hockey, ice-hockey and basketball as well as movies but the light of his life was his family. Many thanks to the staff at Prince Rupert Hospital for their care and attention. The funeral service will be held on August 12, 2017 at 12pm at the Annunciation Church in Prince Rupert, B.C. There will be a reception at the Crest Hotel following from 1-4pm. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Prince Rupert Seniors Center.
