Norma died peacefully, with her son Tom at her side, on Christmas Eve 2016. Norma was born and raised in Prince Rupert and lived most of her life there. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Andrew (Eric) Janes in 1989. She is survived by her sons, Bob ( Shelley) and children Christopher and Cheryl; Eric (Charlene) and children Allison, Connor and Cambria; and Tom (Debbie) and children Melissa, Jeremy and Teagan. Norma left Prince Rupert to train as a Registered Nurse at the Victoria Royal Jubilee Hospital and graduated in 1947. She returned to Prince Rupert and worked at the Prince Rupert Hospital for several years. She met and married Eric, who was serving in the army and stationed in Prince Rupert with the radio and telecommunications division. She enjoyed swimming and was an endless supporter of Prince Rupert’s first indoor pool. She continued to swim throughout her life and even won two medals in her only senior games. In her latter years she moved to Kelowna, where she enjoyed the visits of her ten great grandchildren: Jayden, Hanna, Sophie, Lochlan, Gabe, Dessa, Willa, Teddy, Georgia and Mallory. There will be a celebration of life for Norma on Sunday, May 21st in Kelowna. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
