Donald Richard “Rick” Nixon passed away at Acropolis Manor on the evening of January 12 after a brief illness. Rick was just 66 years old. He was born on May 27, 1950 at Prince Rupert General Hospital and resided in Prince Rupert all his life.

Rick was an avid fisherman who loved to take his kayak and head on up the river, camping out at his favourite fishing hole. Employed by CN Rail for 33 years he retired in 2005. Rick was also an auxiliary fireman and Legion member for many years.

Predeceased by his mother Jean Garner, Rick is survived by his brother Craig (Gail) in Delta, sister Ann (Peter) in Somerset UK, niece Shauna (Simon), nephew Scott (Maritza), and 5 great nieces and nephews. He also had close family in the US; cousins Jack (Joyce), Thomas, and Terri (Lawrence) whom he visited annually for many years.

Never without an opinion Rick optimized “free spirit” as he toured the city on his daily walks.

A private wake was attended by close friends and family. A special thanks to those who stayed in touch with Rick as his journey came to an end, especially local members of the Prince Rupert Fire Department. Any donations in his memory should go to the charity of your choice.
