Vehicle thefts keep police busy

The RCMP has recovered two pick-up trucks, an ATV, and a licence plate in other northern communities that were stolen from Prince Rupert the morning of March 9.

The local police received a call at 8:30 a.m. that day of two used pick-ups stolen from North Shore Truck Sales on Caine Road. The 2005 white Ford F-250 pick-up truck was valued at approximately $12,500, while a 2004 white Ford F-350 flat deck pick-up truck was valued at approximately $15,000.

Video surveillance confirms that the theft occurred between midnight and 2:00 a.m. by what appears to be two male suspects.

At approximately 10:15 a.m., police received a call that a 2009 green Kawasaki ATV, valued at $17,000, was stolen from Borden Street. The theft is believed to have occurred between midnight and 8 a.m. that morning.

Later that day, the Prince Rupert RCMP received a complaint that the rear license plate from a white Ford pick-up had been stolen.

One pick up truck, the Ford F-250, was found abandoned approximately 50 km west of Terrace around 12:50 p.m. The vehicle was seized by Terrace RCMP and is being processed by forensic identification services for evidence.

A few hours later, at 3:15 p.m., a Prince George RCMP officer conducted a traffic stop in the downtown core, coming across the white Ford F-350 bearing the stolen licence plate with the ATV loaded in the back. The driver fled the scene, but the male passenger was arrested.

Police believed the three vehicle thefts are connected. They are asking for anyone with information regarding the vehicle thefts to contact the Prince Rupert RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222- TIPS.
