Rail safety commitment concerning to Cullen

Skeena-Bulkey Valley MP Nathan Cullen said CN Rail's projected response time for the riding is inadequate.

"We've heard from CN that response to any rail disasters is more than 12 hours away in the region. That's obviously not sufficient," Cullen said.

"With the recent disasters, most notably in Quebec, having to wait 12 hours for a community that might be exposed to a toxic spill isn't acceptable in this day and age."

Cullen said CN needs to come to the region and realize the risks associated with the increase in dangerous freight moving through the north. Cullen said CN should have to do business properly, and saying they hope for a 12 hours response time for sub-contractors is simply not good enough.

"Anyone who's running a business that has risks associated with it has to account for those risks. Car companies are not allowed to say, it's just too expensive to put seatbelts in," he said.
