Joanna Larson is seeking the NDP nomination to run on the North Coast in the upcoming provincial election.

With two-term NDP MLA Gary Coons not seeking re-election, the first candidate to replace him in the spring election has declared her intention to run.

Joanna Larson, current president of the Prince Rupert and District Teacher's Union, will be seeking the nomination in the North Coast riding.

“I believe it is important to continue with the strong leadership Gary Coons has shown in our riding," said Larson in a statement.

"I believe I’m the right person to do that based on my experience as a labour leader, community activist and educator of over 20 years.”

Larson has lived in the region since 1998, is married with two children, is in her fourth term as PRDTU president and is in her second term on the executive of the BC Teacher's Federation.
